Firstly, you should have a clear reason for learning Spanish. You need to have a clear picture in your mind as to why you’re learning Spanish – it might be to pass an exam for a job application or promotion, to be able to speak well enough to go on holiday to Spain in a month, or to be able to talk with your Spanish girlfriend. Most people do not define a clear reason for learning for themselves to focus on. Just by knowing where you are heading you will learn much faster, and with greater ease. Make the effort to do this even though it sounds obvious.

Secondly, try and make this reason a solid goal that you can aim for. If you want to achieve fluency in Spanish for a job application, find out which official exam is required as proof of your fluency. you can then study and pay special attention to exactly what the exam requires. If you’re learning Spanish for a visit to Spain in a month, your goal could be to master all possible restaurant, directions, emergency and small talk language. If you’re only learning so that you can simply talk in Spanish, then set a goal to be able to speak in Spanish alone for an entire day.

Number four, make sure that you choose the best way for you to learn Spanish. Classes in schools are often not the best way to learn Spanish. the pace will always slow right down – to the pace of the slowest, or at best an average student, while the teacher’s attention is divided between many students.

Actually going to stay in a Spanish-speaking country is the best way to advance fast. In a French dictionary word restaurant would be Café. We use that word in English as well as we use the word restaurant.  A restaurateur in French is a person who owns a restaurant.  It’s a masculine noun.

In a French dictionary pomme is a potato. When turned into french fries the French would call it pommes frites. That was once explained on the popular children’s show Mr. Rogers Neighborhood. The phrase pommes de la soupe would be potato soup. If you wanted a baked potato with some cheese on it you might ask for pommes du fromage.
